He has also studied under other Grandmasters from Korea and China. He has been involved in the study, research, and instruction of martial arts for over 47 years. He started the Hillside Center of Bowie Maryland in 1997. He places an emphasis on balance between soft and hard arts, weapons and empty handed, mind and body and their unification with the spirit. He has studied oriental medicine to include acupuncture and acupressure. He follows the age-old Shaolin temple practices, philosophy, and training doctrines. He believes that they have withstood the test of time and offer great truth and wisdom for today's practitioner.
In 2002 Mr. Gauthier started a self defense program called Defensive Tactics Systems to address real world self defense concerns. It was developed for the individual that did not have the time or the desire to learn or invest in martial arts practice. It is a simple and effective discipline. All of the techniques go through a stringent vetting process. They must be easy to use, learn, and retain. This program has been taught to civilians, law enforcement, military, churches, and corporate clients all over the world.
